Esteemed visitors of our website,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the official website of the Embassy of Rwanda based in Sweden.
Our Embassy is mandated to represent Rwanda in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Iceland and to strengthen and enhance our bilateral and economic relations, and friendships with these Nordic countries. We provide services to Rwandan nationals living in and visiting these countries as well as to nationals of the Nordic countries visiting, working, and investing in Rwanda.
I am happy to invite you to Visit Rwanda. Rwanda is ranked as the safest (Gallup report) and cleanest country in Africa and is one of only five African countries that offer visa-free access or visas on arrival to citizens of all African countries. Furthermore, nationals of all countries can receive visas on arrival at Kigali International Airport and all land borders. Anyone visiting Rwanda is in for a multitude of surprises and wonderful experiences as it is a remarkably beautiful country in Eastern and Central Africa. It is fondly known as the “land of a thousand hills” and home to mountain gorillas.
Moreover, Rwanda’s strategic location and her zero-tolerance on corruption, makes her an ideal commercial base for servicing markets in the central and East African region and beyond. Rwanda is already a well-known tech hub in Africa, creating the kind of tech eco-system that attracts the interest of investors and start-up entrepreneurs alike. The goal of turning Kigali into a regional financial centre has seen among others, the creation of the KIFC with the main objective to advance the competitiveness of Rwanda’s financial sector to meet international standards and position the country as a financial services hub for the region.
Since the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, Rwanda has been on a journey of transformation based on people centric politics characterized by a series of achievements ie. championing gender equality with the highest number of women in parliament, doubling life expectancy from 26 years (in 1994) to 69 years (in 2019), amongst many others.
The COVID-19 global pandemic has changed the way we all do business and how we lead our lives. The Government of Rwanda did not spare any efforts in combating the COVID-19 pandemic and is now focused on Economic diplomacy as a pillar to make post-Covid recovery more prosperous and stronger. Our website provides relevant and up-to-date information about trade and investment, noting that for potential investors, Rwanda offers ease of doing business and a wide range of investment opportunities in different sectors such as agriculture, agro-processing, energy, ICT, mining, tourism, manufacturing, transportation, and infrastructure development, among others.
The bilateral relationships between Rwanda and Sweden as well as other Scandinavian countries are excellent. Through cooperation, we continue to strengthen in the areas of; Democracy and gender equality, Environment and climate, Economic development, Research cooperation.
This website serves as a platform to chronicle our rapidly growing ties with the Nordic countries, providing information on Rwanda that encompasses all important aspects of Rwandan life as well as our linkages to the countries we are accredited to. You will also find important and updated information related to consular services, and I would like to encourage all Rwandan nationals to register at the Embassy to be able to easily access the services provided by the Embassy.
As H.E President Paul Kagame says “Rwandans have chosen to stay together, be accountable and think BIG”.
I thank you for visiting and for your interest in Rwanda.
Dr. Diane Gashumba
