Embassy Visits Uppsala Centre for Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Exploring Pathways for Academic Collaboration
Ambassador Dr. Diane Gashumba visited the Uppsala Centre for Holocaust and Genocide Studies (UHGS), where she was welcomed by Director Dr. Roland Kostić for an engaging tour and introduction to the Centre’s scholars and initiatives. She was joined by Edith Kabalira of the Africa Centre for Peace, Security and Environmental Affairs (ACPSEA).
The visit opened substantive discussions on the potential for deeper collaboration between Rwandan academia and UHGS, particularly in advancing rigorous research, education, and documentation related to genocides. Central to those conversations was the importance of accurate, evidence-based data — not only for scholarly integrity, but for informing the world and future generations, strengthening collective understanding, and supporting ongoing efforts toward genocide prevention. The broader threats to global peace and equality formed an important part of the exchange.
The meeting was a productive step toward exploring concrete avenues for future academic cooperation, and it connected the center to the University of Rwanda’s Center for Genocide and Security Studies (CGSS) and to the Ministry of National Unity and Civic Engagement.
